Learning Japanese doesn't have to be hard. It can be FUN.
Duolingo is good at teaching vocabulary, but it isn't the best at teaching you how to speak fluently. How do I know this? I definitely did not try using what Duolingo taught me in Japan… I bought 7 Japanese books, but they didn't help much: a lot of repeated content. I tried reading a light novel, just to realise I couldn't read 90% of it. It's wayyy too much. It felt overwhelming.
It got me thinking… How do kids learn to speak their own language?
Definitely not by using Duolingo. By immersion! The more a person listens to a language, the faster and easier our brain tends to learn it. Andddd I tried it myself. Not only was it way more fun, it felt less like a chore, and I felt like I was learning at a much faster rate than last time.
